On The Move

When Port Coogee is completed there will be 1.5km of previously unaccessible coastline for pedestrians and cyclists to enjoy.

While we are busy creating this new dual use path, the existing north-south path along the waterfront has been closed to ensure public safety.

The path will be progressively opened up as Port Coogee evolves.

Port Coogee Northern Foreshore Opening

A crowd of over 1,000 people attended the official opening of the Northern Port Coogee Foreshore which saw the first stretch of revitalised parkland presented to the people of Cockburn.

With near perfect conditions visitors soaked up the sun, sea and a morning of entertainment featuring an official 'ringing of the ship's bell' by Cockburn Mayor Logan Howlett, music by the Sambanista's as well as a host of kids activities including a footy skills session with Eagles legend Glen Jakovich, bouncy castle, Zorb balls and Purple Pirate treasure hunt.

The presentation of the first stretch of revitalised parkland is just the beginning of some of the upcoming milestones that will be delivered to the people of Cockburn.

Artistic Endeavours

An iconic sculptural bridge is the first piece of interpretive art to be installed at Port Coogee.

Designed to reflect the hull of a shipwreck, the 24-metre structure creates an impressive entrance to the southern island, which will eventually offer 34 premier home sites. The new bridge is part of an integrated program of sculptures, landscaping treatments and other features that will be located throughout the city marina and residential estate.

There will be an emphasis on art that reflects the rich history and culture of the Port Coogee area.

Groundwater Meets Standards

Rigorous monitoring and testing of groundwater at Port Coogee shows it is suitable for irrigation purposes as confirmed by the Department of Water (DOW).

Confusion over groundwater use followed re-classification of land at Port Coogee under the Contaminated Sites Act (2003) in February this year.

The DEC classification only relates to the private abstraction of groundwater and not the soil, which the DEC has confirmed as suitable for residential, public open space and commercial use.

Australand has lodged a formal appeal against the Port Coogee classification of Remediated under Restricted Use and continues to work with a number of State Government agencies to try and resolve the issue.
